shopgirl

When Chad mentioned to me that there was a shopgirl trailer online I was instantly interested. I'd always meant to read Steve Martin's novella (and hopefully I'll make time to do so before the film comes out), I'm a big fan of his contributions to the New Yorker and I like L.A. Story. After being forced to slum it in Cheaper By the Dozen and that Queen Latifah movie, Martin seems to be back where belongs in a film that appears to smart, funny, and heartfelt. He adapted his book and Anand Tucker directed (Tucker is probably best known for 1998's "Hilary and Jackie" which I've been meaning to see as well). The film stars Martin and Jason Schwartzman as men both trying to win the heart of Claire Danes a department store clerk and aspiring artist. All three look terrific and the photography also looks surprisingly stylish and evocative. It comes out October 21st. Below is a link to the trailer.
